This two day workshop working with greenwood will give opportunity to get to grips with axe work and drawknife work on the shave horse making a stool and useful kitchen utensils.
You will learn how to use traditional greenwood methods to split/cleave logs using froes, axes, splitting chisels, mallets, shave horses and drawknives, planes and hand tools for finishing. Two days gives an opportunity learn some more skills on the shave horse to craft a spatula, or two or more! They will become your favourite kitchen utensil and also make a great gift! The stool legs will have time to dry out overnight with a more relaxed time to carry out the levelling and any final finishing the top surface of the stool.
There will be time to make a spatula, or two; they will become your favourite kitchen utensil! They also make a great gift.
This greenwood workshop will take place inside a spacious, relatively modern barn. It is unheated so please wear layers if the weather is a little chilly. If it's sunny and warm enough we may move outside to take advantage of the amazing views all around. Lunch will either be in the 17th-century farmhouse or renovated bunk barn.
There are just 6-8 places on this workshop and Phil is a very popular tutor as he only teaches a limited number of workshops a year; please make sure that you book early to avoid disappointment.
Phil also teaches our basketry and sculptural willow workshops but he has a very strong passion for working with greenwood too. He is an excellent teacher with patience and gentle humour to help guide you along the way. Follow him on instagram philbradleybasketmaker
